Robert Tanner Bivens
Regional Organizations | Norms & Socialization | LGBTQIA+ | Sub-Saharan Africa
Welcome! My name is Dr. Robert Tanner Bivens and I am an Instructor of Comparative Politics, International Relations, and Public Policy at Eastern Illinois University.
I received my political science Ph.D. in 2024 from Northern Illinois University. My area of focus examines norm diffusion and institutional dynamics within regional organizations. My particular areas of focus include sub-Saharan African countries, Lusophone (Portuguese-speaking) diplomacy, global human rights, and LGBTQ+ rights specifically.
Most of my time is now dedicated to conducting my research and teaching at EIU. However, when I am not doing that, I also enjoy coffee in all forms, playing tabletop RPGs, video games, and jogging. I would also like to give a special thank you to my great office assistant, Simba! He is my big orange cat who always helps me stay on task.
